Reflections by Glenda Kickbush
In
the middle of September, it was with great expectation we flew into an Asian country to meet up with HCJB Asia Pacific staff. We enjoyed meeting up with
Ron and Barb Cline, HCJB Global Ambassadors who led a mini retreat to encourage
us in our call; to strengthen us and give thanks that God had called us to
serve as a team in the mission. It was a special and refreshing time.
For
the next phase of our trip we arrived in Bali,
Indonesia for the Global Voice Institute course at which Derek was one of the
teachers.
I didn’t know what to expect, as I had never been to Indonesia
before. I was pleasantly surprised to find we were staying at a very large,
well established resort which provided a
very tranquil setting for the training of 17 Indonesian students in management.
It was a pleasure to listen to their
beautiful harmonies when we met for morning devotions before each day
commenced. The students were radio station managers from all over Indonesia. I
found them to be very friendly people with beaming smiles and eager to learn
all that they could.
Ron and Barb Cline set the tone by spelling out what it means to be a leader and a manager of a radio station. Examples were taken from characters from the Bible, such as Jesus, Nehemiah, Peter and Paul. There were encouraging stories of how the local radio stations were vital in bringing many listeners into the Kingdom of God. In one area, the majority of the population came to the local radio station to receive medical help and would hear about Jesus and his saving grace.
In
some free time, we were driven around to see some of the beautiful extensive
beaches and beautiful sunsets over the water.
I noticed the huge contrast between the areas of poverty where the
dwellings were very humble and the new grand shopping centres and apartments
where overseas tourists gather in huge numbers. The small market places lined a
lot of the narrow streets where the rush of the chaotic traffic was always
present.
I
wasn’t sure what to expect on my first trip to Indonesia but the friendliness
of the people and the different circumstances under which some of the station managers’
work impressed me.

Last, but not least, we praise God for the encouraging feedback we are receiving from our stronger broadcast signals from our new transmission site at Kununurra, Western Australia.
